Day 1, MOSCOW, RUSSIA
Arrive at Moscow airport, be met and transferred for a one-night-stay
to the luxurious five-star Marriott Royal Aurora hotel (or similar)
located in the heart of this vibrant city. Enjoy a very special
welcome reception dinner at the hotel, meet your fellow travelers in
anticipation of the epic 15 day voyage lying ahead.
Day 2, MOSCOW
Join your morning city tour of Moscow, visiting the Red Square , an
iconic symbol of Russia’s former military and political might. Check
the Square’s eclectic mix of fascinating architecture: the ornate St
Basil’s Cathedral with its magnificent onion-domed spires, the
grandeur of The Kremlin and the somber and evocative site of Lenin’s
tomb. Board the luxurious Golden Eagle Trans-Siberian Express in the
afternoon. Enjoy your dinner in one of the beautifully designed
restaurant cars as your rail adventure eastwards to Vladivostok
begins.
Day 3, KAZAN
Mid-morning, arrive in the picturesque and historic city of Kazan
sitting on the banks of the River Volga. Submerge in the rich tapestry
of history and culture of the area and the city. Explore of the
Kremlin (Fortress) of Kazan, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Visit its
stunning mosque and onion-domed cathedral. Enjoy a relaxing dinner on
the Golden Eagle; retire to our welcoming bar car (at your wish),
enjoy drinks with new friends whilst listening to our resident
pianist.
Day 4, YEKATERINBURG
Cross the Europe/Asia divide before arriving in the historic city of
Yekaterinburg the third largest Russian city, founded in 1723 by Peter
the Great,. See how the cultural and architectural influences of
European and Asian civilizations come together in this fascinating and
cosmopolitan landscape. Follow your city tour to the poignant site
where last czar of Russia, Nicholas II was brutally executed along
with all the members of his family in 1918. Visit the new church
dedicated to their memory, get a powerful insight into the turmoil of
the Russian Revolution.
Day 5, NOVOSIBIRSK
Experience the life and character of Novosibirsk, “a modern Soviet
city”, a place rich witch culture, arts, science and literature. Visit
the Opera House on your city tour. The place being the largest opera
house in the world and a true architectural marvel. Take your photos
before an imposing statue of Lenin right in front of the Opera House.
Day 6, ONBOARD
A day to unwind and reflect on the sights and sounds of your journey
so far. Chat to your fellow passengers, learn a few words of Russian
or contemplate the impressive scenery as it unfolds.
Day 7, IRKUTSK
Arrive in Irkutsk, called by some the ‘Paris of Siberia’. Visit the
open air museum of the classic wooden architecture that has given many
of this region’s buildings such a distinctive and unique appearance,
follow to the museum of the exiled aristocrats forced to flee to this
remote outpost after the failed revolution of 1825. Enjoy a small
private classical concert before returning to your train for a dinner.
Day 8, LAKE BAIKAL
Wind your way through tunnels along cliff hugging tracks above the
lake with a vista of snow capped peaks along the far shore forming a
picture-perfect backdrop. See why it is believed that few natural
sights can surpass the beauty and grandeur of Lake Baikal being the
deepest lake in the world and holding 20% of the world’s freshwater,
boasting a unique breed of freshwater seal and over fifty species of
fish including omul which will be served in the dining car for some of
your meals. Weather permitting, stop at one of Baikal’s picturesque
and secluded bays to enjoy a delicious BBQ including freshly smoked
fish prepared by our own chefs. The brave hearted, take a refreshing
swim in the crystal clear waters of the lake. Visit Listvyanka, a
small Baikal settlement nestling at the base of the surrounding hills.
Day 9, ULAN UDE
Arrive in Ulan Ude, capital of the Buryat Republic, the ethnic and
cultural diversity of which offers a unique insight into its heritage.
Tour the area and notice the different faces and dress styles. Learn
about the culture and history of the Starovery (the Old Traditional
Believers) by visiting their village. Explore the opportunity to talk
to those people directly while being treated to a traditional meal and
enjoy a concert featuring local dancers and musicians.
Day 10, ULAAN BAATAR, MONGOLIA
Our Trans-Siberian adventure takes you into Mongolia, home of Genghis
Khan, undoubtedly the most feared and revered Mongol. Visit the
capital city of Ulaan Baatar. Take a Lunch in a Mongol style in a
traditional Tent, or Ger (Yurt), experience an authentic meal, enjoy
excellent local dishes and entertainment providing a unique
opportunity to encounter this time-honoured nomadic way of life. Board
the train in time for a dinner as the train heads back into Russia.
Day 11, ONBOARD
Enjoy yourself as you travel through the beautiful landscape of the
Russian Far East. Attend one of the informative lectures or Russian
language lessons.
Day 12, ONBOARD
Perfect opportunity to practice your Russian or simply relax as your
journey follows the Shilka and Amur rivers, close to the Chinese
border. Enjoy Russia at its most dramatic and remote, as the Golden
Eagle eats up the miles on your way to Vladivostok.
Day 13, ONBOARD
Passing directly North of Seoul, Darwin and Osaka, spend your last
full day on board the Golden Eagle as the most easterly point of our
mammoth journey is reached passing through Khabarovsk, crossing the
River Amur. Enjoy your final dinner onboard your private train that
has been your home for the last twelve days as you approach your final
destination on this unforgettable journey.
Day 14, VLADIVOSTOK
After travelling through 8 time zones and covering an amazing 6,600
miles (10,600km) along this epic route to the end of the
Trans-Siberian line, the Golden Eagle pulls into Vladivostok, a
military port located on the western shores of the Sea of Japan.
Vladivostok (literally translated as ‘Ruler of the East’) offers
visitors an exciting opportunity to explore its principal military
attractions including a tour of a restored submarine before you
transfer to the centrally located four-star Hotel Hyundai. The final
evening is spent saying your goodbyes to y our fellow travelling
companions and friends at the Farewell Dinner.
Day 15, VLADIVOSTOK
Following breakfast, be transferred to Vladivostok airport to begin
your journey home. Remember to pack and keep along all the memories
and experiences to the 15 day trip.
